Remote EMDR
What to Expect in a Remote EMDR Session
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a powerful therapy used to help people process traumatic or distressing memories. I offer EMDR sessions through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform called remotEMDR, which is designed specifically for online EMDR therapy.
Here’s how a typical remote EMDR session works:
Secure, Private Connection
Before our session, you’ll receive a unique link to join our video call through remotEMDR. The platform is fully encrypted and designed with your privacy in mind.Getting Settled
We’ll start by checking in and making sure you feel safe and ready to begin. I’ll guide you through grounding techniques if needed, and we’ll briefly review your goals for the session.Bilateral Stimulation (BLS)
remotEMDR allows me to provide visual or auditory bilateral stimulation — a key part of EMDR. You’ll see a light bar moving across your screen or hear alternating tones through your headphones. This helps your brain process difficult memories in a way that feels more manageable.Guided Processing
As we begin reprocessing a memory, I’ll ask you to notice what thoughts, emotions, or body sensations come up while the BLS is happening. You don’t need to go into detail or re-tell the entire story — just notice what comes up and share what you feel comfortable with.Pacing and Support
I’ll be there the whole time to check in, slow things down if needed, and help you stay grounded. We’ll go at a pace that feels right for you.Closing the Session
We’ll always take time at the end to help you feel regulated and calm before finishing. I’ll guide you through a grounding exercise and we’ll talk about next steps.
